After a couple of years in production, I’m thrilled to finally be able to introduce On the Silver Screen.  It was a mental puzzle that I eagerly dove into solving – how to take a scarf, On the Set, and convert it into a seamless sweater.  More than once my dyslexia had me jumping through hoops, but in the end with lots of photos to remind myself of knitting orientation, the scarf became a garment of beauty to wear! Glamour One of the ways my fellow indies enable me to join these collections is through yarn choice.  As animal-fiber-free in a woolly world, opting to pick a yarn company with a “Lindsay friendly” yarn was such a blessing.  Malabrigo was …

Lights, camera, action!  With On the Silver Screen, you’ll take center stage as knitters’ “ooh” and “aah” over your skillful stitches.  Beautiful cables and lace adorn the wrap tie while the Stockinette stitch body unveils surprise twisted stitches.  From the Technicolor: Movie Night collaboration theme, the design highlights the transitional period in movies when black and white film upgraded to full color.  The plot twist is finally revealed as the body of On the Silver Screen highlights the former, while the On the Set scarf boldly introduces color.  The tech edited and test knit advanced level pattern is fully written with the lace / cable section both written and charted.  The pattern includes photo tutorials, schematics, diagrams, and a how-to …

On the Set of Technicolor Movie Night Release 5

I can’t believe it’s November and the time for my two releases in Technicolor Movie Night.  On the Set first premiered in Technicolor Matinee but is actually knit into my new release for Movie Night, which comes out next week.  I don’t’ want to give away any secrets on that design, so I thought I’d share some behind the scenes fun from On the Set. Picking the photoshoot location my mind’s eye went back to the wedding scene in Funny Face with Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire.  I looked all around and down a gravel road near the Watauga River was a historic church with the quintessential “old gate” in front.  The church didn’t look much like that in the …

Silvia of ELF Release 3 in Technicolor Movie Night

Christine Guest is the most creative pattern engineer I’ve come across.  She dedicates swatch after swatch to engineering new techniques and refining old ones.  Whenever I have a sticky situation in a pattern, I know she’ll have a solution I’ve not thought of!  So it is with great excitement that I introduce Silvia of ELF, the third release in the Technicolor: Movie Night collection, to you today. If you have Technicolor: Matinee, you’ll have the pattern Silvia Needs a Bag.  But just what could Silvia need a bag for?  Buttons galore! Because she is so humble, you won’t hear the depths of her involvement from her, but I loved her process of creation for this collection.  Not only did Christine …

Fixing the Trim

Lindsay LewchukAnnouncements, Joy of Knitting (2023 theme), Meanwhile in Maine, Pattern Related 2 Comments

If you remember Sleeve Island and Interior Finishes, I had the wrong ratio on my pick up for the cocoon collar.  Christine Guest recommended I use the trim as a ruler.  How’d that work out? PERFECTLY!!!  Not only did it work out perfectly, but it also made for a much easier to write pick up ratio 😉.  Thanks, Christine! Now to the knitty gritty 😉.  The first trial used the already knit hem to see how much I was short by bunching up the excess. The second trial unraveled more from the body to see just how much I should be using. Both tests gave the same result of how much I was short. A lot of frogging and reknitting …

I’ve so enjoyed being part of Malabrigo’s Quickies programs these last few years. Tweedy Toppers fits into the Joy of Knitting theme because of how much fun designing (& knitting) these Quickies are! The call, the submission, checking the email for the “ya” or “nay” and then celebrating with cameramom and cameradad when the “ya” news comes in. Keeping the secret until the release is definitely a challenge! As I work on the project I frequently announce to the family room, I’m “Miss September” this year ;-). Learn more about this 2-skein design, development, and the subtle influences on Malabrigo’s interview with yours truly about Tweedy Toppers on the Malabrigo blog here: September Quickies:</a> Tweedy Toppers — Malabrigo Blog (malabrigoyarn.com)
