Kanine Kap Kampaign – In Loving Memory of Beau

I took a few days off my knitting schedule to answer sweet Beau’s call for hats.

Blues Clues hat front
Blues Clues hat front – knit with 1 skein of 100% organic cotton (Mirasol’s Samp’a) with floppy dog ears and 50/50 cotton/bamboo spot appliques.
Blues Clues hat back

Inspired by all things fur-baby, I designed “Blues Clues” hat, a simple Stockinette hat in organic cotton with cotton/ bamboo spot appliques.

Vogue Girl Beanie with paw print
All dogs have hearts on their paw pads, so I added a heart and four bobbles to my Vogue Girl Beanie in this paw-fect paw inspired hat for a girl

“Vogue Girls Beanie” with a paw print and flower is knit in Kollage’s Milky Whey (50% milk/ 50% soy) yarn.  Each stripe is accented with a purl row.

Join the drive and send a hat of comfort to a suffering child today.  Beau’s call is posted below:

Recently, Mark & Susie, owners of Kollage Yarns, had to deal with the loss of a loved one to cancer. They lost their beloved fur-baby, Beau, to cancer of the heart.

Those of us who have lost pets to cancer know that the anguish is great. A fur-child is as much a part of our family as any other.

In memory of Beau, and joining with Halos of Hope, we’re going to turn sadness into joy by brightening the lives of children going through cancer in Mark & Susie’s hometown of Birmingham, AL. Birmingham is home to The Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders, a partnership between Children’s of Alabama and the UAB Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology. The pediatric team treats 90% of all pediatric cancer and blood disorders diagnosed in the state, helping children from infants to age 25.

We’re looking for volunteers to put a Pawprint on an Alabama child’s heart, so this kampaign is all about the dogs. Make a Kanine Kap, in memory of Beau, to bring a smile to the kids who need to know someone cares. Kaps can be knit, crocheted, woven or sewn.

Dog hats, dog beanies, paws on hats, hats with floppy ears, Big Red dogs, spaniels, terriers, beagles, dalmatians, and hounds. We’ll link some pattern ideas here in our Ravelry group. We know we have amazingly creative volunteers, so please share and post your photos and pattern ideas.

Our goal is 150 Kanine Kaps by June 30th. Sizes should be 15”-22” in circumference. No preemie hats please, 15” is suitable for a small child or infant. 20-22” will cover the 20-somethings. Please try to use washable fibers, and, as always, if the hat has any wool content, please mark it on a label. Because this is Alabama, and summer is coming, cottons and cotton-blends are always an excellent choice!
