One of my favorite stitches is the kfyobyof – knit into the front, yarn over, back, yarn over, and front. This increases 1 stitch to 5 stitches. The video demonstrates both a standard kfyobyof as well as how to work it off of a k1E stitch as in Brioche Step Shawl. Jump to 1:02 to see how to work a k1E and how the kfyobyof is adapted when you are working off a k1E stitch.

Though not technically a brioche stitch, I included a tutorial on the kfyobyof (knit into the front, yarn over, back, yarn over, and front) in Brioche Step Shawl because it’s the foundational growth stitch for this crescent shape shawl.  The beginning of the video shows how to work it standardly.  Then I show an added trick – k1E (knit 1 elongated st) – that allows for a better distribution when you incorporate the newly made stitches into brioche.  Happy knitting!
