haunting swatch in the round graphic

Swatchers, what’s that?

Lindsay Lewchuk Announcements, Pattern Related, Puddles 2 Comments

Like moths to a flame, you’re drawn in. Standing before you is an image of an elegant model standing just so dressed in a gorgeous cable knit sweater that makes your yarn-loving heart race with joy at the thought of casting on. You buy the pattern, grab your supplies, open to the data page and curse words only known to sailors… and knitters. After my visit to Americo Original in Toronto last year, I had yarn in stash that inspired such a sweater design. Once I decided it would be a seamless in the round design, I knew it was my designer duty to bite the bullet and swatch thus in order to get accurate gauge information. I quietly accepted …

Soar!

Lindsay Lewchuk Announcements, Designers, Pattern Related 8 Comments

So many divergent and diverse moments went into this design! In the big mixing bowl of the little grey cells, God tossed in many moments of watching eagles soar on the thermal lifts rising off the cliff behind our house; my mom’s favorite colors and her birthday wish; a question posed to my mom on their 42nd anniversary – “what bird do see yourselves as”; a Bible verse; an educational chat on air science with a friend; and about a dozen other little things. Did you know that eagles mate for life? Well, on my parents’ anniversary, my mom declared that she and my dad were eagles. It’s a good thing she didn’t specify that it is bald eagles that …

Thermal Lift

Lindsay Lewchuk 2016 New Releases, Cowls, Men, Patterns

Soar on the wings of an eagle! As I watched the eagles soar in the vast expanse between the two mountain peaks outside my window, I reflected on Isaiah 40. Using cables and color work, Thermal Lift cowl mirrors the subtle “V” of an extended eagle’s wings while it ascends thermal lifts. The solid background accents the elegant grace of an eagle in flight. Isaiah 40:31 Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary. The tech edited and test knit pattern includes written directions and charts. $6.50 Finished Measurements:60”/ 152.5cm around by 9” / 23cm …

…And also in the pattern layout! After many months brainstorming with my mentors I believe I’ve finally solved one of the biggest issues being allergic to animal-fiber created! I’m super excited about this development as I’ve never been ethically against animal fibers if they are produced in a humane way, just limited by my own illness. I shall try to limit my use of exclamation points, but don’t let that fool you – I’m totally jazzed about this development and hope you all will be too! In the pattern you’ll see a few new things. The “gauge” section will now look like this: Rather than requiring both blocked stitch and row gauge to match, you may now substitute as long …

Organic Cotton Petite DK Yarn Review

Lindsay Lewchuk Announcements, eco world, Fiber Focus, Yarn, Yarn Review 3 Comments

NEW – you all know that sign when you see it hanging next to beautiful fiber; you drop everything just to dive into the lovely new yarn! Well I had that experience recently thanks to a squishy mail delivery from one of my favorite yarnies, The Unique Sheep. Inside was a sample of their new yarn offering, Organic Cotton Petite DK! And I’m not at all ashamed to confess that after it went through the obligatory wash, I dropped all my WIPs in order to whip out swatches to see what yarn stories Organic Cotton Petite DK was dying to tell. Review – through the fingersOrganic Cotton Petite DK has an airy lofty feel to it. In addition to being …
